Happy hour in Palo Alto is mostly an early evening, weekday affair built around the tech workday. Bars and restaurants downtown and on California Avenue fill from about 4 p.m., when people leave offices on University Avenue and Page Mill Road. A few places start earlier, a handful run every day and only a couple extend the deals into the weekend.

This page lists only happy hours that the venues publish themselves. Each day and time is as listed on the venue's own website or a verified page in our business directory in October 2026. We do not list prices, since they change often and vary by item. Happy hours are among the most frequently changed details at any restaurant, so check the venue's own site before you go.

Planning by day of the week

  1. Monday. The quietest night. Bar Underdog and Nola are closed and Vina Enoteca opens only for private events. Local Union 271, Tamarine, Sekoya and the shopping center restaurants still list happy hour.
  2. Tuesday to Thursday. The widest choice. Nearly every venue on this page runs its happy hour.
  3. Friday. Oren's Hummus drops off and Sekoya starts an hour earlier, at 4 p.m.
  4. Saturday. La Bodeguita, Sekoya, Vina Enoteca, Pacific Catch, Local Union 271, Tamarine and INDO all list a Saturday happy hour.
  5. Sunday. Local Union 271, Tamarine and Pacific Catch are the listed options.

Tips for happy hour

  • Arrive early. Bar seats fill fast at popular spots, especially where happy hour applies only at the bar.
  • Ask for the happy hour menu. Most venues print a separate, shorter menu. Not every dish or drink is included.
  • Expect holiday changes. Many venues skip happy hour on holidays and during private events.
  • Plan the ride home. Both downtown Caltrain stations are walkable from most of these venues. See our Caltrain guide or our page on robotaxis and rideshare.
  • Bring ID. California bars check it routinely, whatever your age looks like.

Good to know
