About Coupa Cafe on Lytton
Coupa Cafe is a family-owned local chain. Its Lytton Avenue branch sits at 111 Lytton Avenue, across the street from the Palo Alto Caltrain station. The Coupal family opened the first Palo Alto Coupa in 2004 on Ramona Street. The company now marks more than two decades in business. The Lytton cafe opened in January 2016 as the company's second downtown location. Palo Alto Online reported at the time that it sat between SurveyMonkey's offices and a gelato shop.
Coupa calls this branch an "urban oasis" concept. It is in the Lytton Gateway building next to the station. The company describes the layout as modern and efficient. It also notes that the building was the last downtown Palo Alto office project to follow the principles of the New Urbanism movement, which favors walkable and transit-friendly design.
What is on the menu
Coffee comes first. The cafe serves espresso drinks, chai and hot chocolate. Food covers both a grab-and-go case and hot dishes. When the cafe opened, Palo Alto Online listed Coupa staples such as arepas, sandwiches and salads, plus items new at the time like boba, burgers, tacos and a shrimp po'boy. An arepa is a griddled corn cake split and filled, much like a sandwich.
Coupa lists the farms it works with on its website, including Clover Stornetta Farms, Ratto Brothers, Durst Organics, Dwelley Farms, Giusti Farms and Glaum Egg Ranch, among others. Menus change over time, so check the current list before you go.
Ordering and the Coupa app
Coupa offers pickup, curbside pickup and delivery through its website and app. It also supports group orders with a per-person spending limit. The Coupa Card loyalty program gives rewards for spending at any branch. Gift cards and bags of coffee are sold online with free shipping on coffee packs. Some branches also offer tableside ordering by scanning a QR code at the table. For offices, Coupa caters with espresso cart service, continental breakfasts, boxed lunches and lunch or dinner catering.
The space
The company says the Lytton cafe has complimentary internet and background music. It describes the room as warm. Because it closes at 3 p.m. every day, it is mainly a breakfast and lunch stop. If you are catching a train, allow a few extra minutes in case of a line.
