About Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care

Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care is a med spa at 131 Lytton Avenue, a short walk from the Palo Alto Caltrain station on the north side of downtown. The practice focuses on cosmetic laser work, injectables and skin treatments. Its website says the team has more than 15 years of experience with cosmetic lasers.

The clinic was co-founded by William H. Brown III and Zuzana Likar, MSN, NP-C. According to the practice, Dr. Brown graduated from medical school in St. Louis and is double board-certified in general vascular surgery and surgery. He is also listed as an associate of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. The site says his interest in lasers started with the treatment of varicose veins. Likar is a nurse practitioner who, the practice says, has more than 21 years of experience with injectables, fillers and lasers. The practice calls itself small and says it never double-books appointments.

Treatments the practice lists

The menu is long, so it helps to know how the clinic groups it. This is a summary of what the website names, not advice about which treatment suits you. A consultation with the practice is the place for that.

  • Laser and energy treatments: UltraClear, Fraxel DUAL, CO2 laser resurfacing, Clear + Brilliant Touch, Tixel, IPL photofacials, Vbeam Perfecta, laser hair reduction, laser tattoo removal with PicoWay and treatments for facial and leg veins.
  • Injectables: neuromodulators such as Botox and Daxxify, dermal fillers including the Juvederm collection, Radiesse, Restylane and RHA fillers, plus Kybella, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and sclerotherapy.
  • Facial treatments: HydraFacial, chemical peels, microneedling, Morpheus8 RF microneedling, Thermage, dermaplaning, eye rejuvenation, Celluma light therapy and cryotherapy such as Glacial Rx. The facial menu includes a teen facial.
  • Body treatments: CoolSculpting, Emsculpt Neo, hair restoration and HydraFacial Keravive for the scalp.

The practice says it has more lasers and energy-based devices than any other clinic in the Palo Alto area. That is the clinic's own claim. What it does tell you is that the menu leans heavily toward lasers rather than spa services such as massage.

Booking, deposits and policies

You can request an appointment through the website or call 650-565-8683. The office policies page is worth reading before you commit, because the rules are stricter than at a typical salon:

  • The clinic keeps a credit card on file when you book.
  • Some procedures need a deposit. The amount depends on the time reserved. Deposits are not refunded but carry over if you reschedule within the policy.
  • For appointments of 45 minutes or less, cancel at least 48 hours ahead. For one hour or longer, cancel at least three full business days ahead.
  • Missing a short appointment without notice can cost $150 or the deposit. Missing a longer one can cost half the scheduled service price.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early. If you are late, the clinic may not be able to see you.

Packages and specials are non-transferable and non-refundable. The policy says five-treatment packages must be used within a year and ten-treatment packages within 18 months.

Membership program

The clinic runs a membership program that you sign up for in the office or by phone. The listed perks include 15% off body contouring such as CoolSculpting and Emsculpt Neo, 15% off deluxe HydraFacials and HydraFacial Keravive and discounts on injectables. Members also get birthday month offers, including 50% off laser hair removal. Ask the front desk for current terms, since programs like this change.

Tips for visiting

The office is on Lytton Avenue near the Alma Street end of downtown. Street parking is limited on weekdays. The city runs paid and permit parking in the surrounding blocks. Our Palo Alto parking guide explains the downtown garages and lots. If you come by train, the station is a few minutes away on foot. See riding Caltrain for schedules and fares.

Plan around the weekday schedule. Saturday slots exist only on some weekends, so book early if you can only come then. Bring a list of any medications and past treatments to your consultation. If you want lunch or coffee after an appointment, the restaurants of downtown Palo Alto are a short walk south along University Avenue.
