About Antoine's Cookie Shop
Antoine's Cookie Shop is a small bakery that does one thing: cookies. The Palo Alto shop sits in Town & Country Village on El Camino Real, across the road from Stanford, in Building 1, Suite 15. It is one of four shops run by a business that began with a single craving.
The founder is Antoine Tang. As the Mountain View Voice told the story in 2020, he wanted a warm cookie late one night in 2013, found no bakery open and went looking for a recipe to make his own. He started baking for a church group, then sold cookies online. He later left his job at an Apple store to deliver cookies to homes and offices around the Peninsula. In 2016 he opened his first shop in downtown San Mateo, which still operates on 2nd Avenue.
The Palo Alto shop opened on January 15, 2021, in a space that Babka by Ayelet had left earlier in 2020. It started with pickup and local delivery and sells the same cookies as the San Mateo original. Antoine's has since added shops on West Main Street in Los Gatos and on Market Street in San Francisco's Duboce Triangle area.
The cookies
Antoine's sums up its goal on its website as the "perfect balance of texture and flavor," and it says its mission is authenticity. The ingredients it names are butter, real vanilla, organic flour and Guittard chocolate. The Town & Country Village listing adds that the shop mixes its dough in house and sells about ten varieties, baked to be crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. That is the classic bakery style rather than the thick, underbaked kind.
When the Palo Alto shop opened, the lineup reported by the Voice included:
- Chocolate chip, the original recipe that started the business
- Oatmeal chip and walnut chip
- Peanut butter cup, one of the first flavors sold
- Toffee and dark chocolate chip
- White chocolate macadamia and snickerdoodle
- Cookies and cream, which was the top seller at the time
Social media posts at the time also hinted at off-menu cookies. Flavors rotate and this list is several years old, so check the website for the current choices.
How to buy
You can walk in and buy cookies in the shop. The website takes online cookie orders for pickup. The center's listing also mentions curbside pickup, which is handy if you are driving through on El Camino Real and do not want to park. For bigger occasions, the website takes catering orders. It also sells gift cards through Square.
A box of cookies is an easy gift to bring to a dinner, an office or a dorm. Because the shop bakes its own dough, cookies are often fresh from the oven, so plan to eat a few right away.
Who it suits
Antoine's is a quick stop rather than a place to linger. It works for a treat after lunch at Town & Country, for a parent visiting a Stanford student or for anyone who needs dessert for a group without baking. Families with kids will find the simple flavors easy to choose from. Evening hours until 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday make it a good after-dinner errand too. If you want a full bakery with bread and pastries, Manresa Bread is a short walk away in the same center.
The shop does not publish allergen details on the pages we read. The cookies contain butter and flour. Several flavors include nuts, so ask in the shop if you have an allergy.
