Hotel Strata is a small independent hotel on El Camino Real in Mountain View. It has 58 rooms and suites and sells itself on what comes with the room: a breakfast buffet, free parking, free Wi-Fi, loaner bicycles and a weekday shuttle to nearby offices. There is no restaurant, pool or meeting room. What you get instead is a quiet base a short walk from the south end of Castro Street, about 6 miles from downtown Palo Alto.
This profile is based on the hotel's official website, checked November 1, 2026. We do not publish prices, star ratings or reviews. To see live rates, check Hotel Strata on Booking.com or book with the hotel, which runs its own Strata Rewards program and lists benefits for booking direct.
Location
The address is 93 W. El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040. El Camino Real is the old state highway that runs the length of the Peninsula, so the hotel sits on a busy commercial road lined with shops, offices and other hotels. The hotel says Castro Street's restaurants, wine bars and coffee shops are about a five-minute walk away. That is true of the El Camino end of the street. The car-free restaurant blocks near the train station are closer to a mile on foot. Our Castro Street guide explains how the street is laid out.
Distances, measured in a straight line from the hotel:
| Place | Distance |
|---|---|
| Mountain View Caltrain station | About 0.9 mile |
| Downtown Palo Alto (University Avenue) | About 6.4 miles |
| Stanford Main Quad | About 6 miles |
| Stanford Hospital | About 6.6 miles |
| NASA Ames Research Center | About 3.5 miles (hotel figure) |
The hotel's site gives two different figures for Shoreline Amphitheatre: 2 miles in its FAQ and 4.7 miles on its attractions list. The second is closer to the drive. Plan on 10 to 15 minutes by car outside concert traffic.
Getting there
Mountain View station, at the top of Castro Street, is the nearest Caltrain stop. It is an express stop and also serves VTA light rail. Palo Alto station is about 10 minutes north by train in the same fare zone, so a hop to University Avenue costs a one-zone fare. From the station, the walk to the hotel takes roughly 20 minutes, or you can ride one of the hotel's loaner bikes.
- From SJC: San Jose's airport is the closer one, about a 15 to 20 minute drive outside rush hour. Our SJC guide covers transit options.
- From SFO: take BART to Millbrae and a southbound Caltrain to Mountain View, or drive down Highway 101. Our SFO guide has the details.
The hotel's weekday shuttle is described as a pre-arranged ride to local businesses. It is not an airport shuttle. Ask the front desk how far it goes and book it ahead.
Rooms and suites
The hotel lists deluxe rooms, suites and accessible rooms, 58 in all. Room features named on the official site:
- Locally made furniture, including Danish-style recliners built in the Bay Area.
- Wood-look floors rather than carpet.
- A flat-screen HDTV and a work desk with a conference phone.
- A Nespresso coffee and tea maker.
- Grohe showers and heated bathroom floors.
- Toto heated washlets and TVs built into the mirror in upgraded rooms.
The hotel's Work From Hotel package mentions a dedicated 1 gigabit fiber connection, which matters if you plan to take video calls from the room. Room sizes are not listed on the home page, so compare categories on the booking screen for your dates. If you need an accessible room, call the hotel to confirm the exact features before you book.
What is included
The hotel's pitch is that the extras most travelers pay for are already in the rate. According to the official site:
- Breakfast. A buffet with eggs, cheese omelets and Blue Bottle and illy coffee. A breakfast-to-go option appears in the Hike and Bike package.
- Parking. Complimentary for all guests. The hotel says it keeps ample spaces for nights when Shoreline Amphitheatre or Levi's Stadium events fill the area.
- Bikes. Loaner bicycles for exploring town. The Stevens Creek Trail and the Castro Street area are both within reach.
- Weekday shuttle. A complimentary pre-arranged shuttle to local companies.
- Fitness center. Listed as state of the art on the home page.
- Patio. An outdoor patio with a fire pit.
The site does not mention EV charging, a pool, a spa or room service. If those matter, the bigger hotels in Mountain View and on El Camino Real in Palo Alto cover them. Our guides to hotels with pools and hotels with free parking compare the options.

Food nearby
With no restaurant on site, dinner means a short walk or ride. The El Camino Real end of Castro Street is closest. The three car-free blocks near the station, from Evelyn Avenue to California Street, hold the densest run of restaurants and bars in Mountain View. El Camino Real itself has a long string of casual places in both directions. Our Mountain View food guide covers the town by cuisine.
On Sunday mornings, the Mountain View farmers market sets up in the Caltrain station lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It moves to the Hope Street lots on a few dates in late 2026, so check before you go.
