On a Thursday evening in mid-October, long tables fill the Main Quad under the sandstone arcades. Alumni who have not seen each other in ten, twenty or fifty years trade stories over dinner while the light fades on Memorial Church. For the next three days the campus belongs to returning classes: talks by favorite professors in lecture halls, class tailgates on the Encina Hall lawn, a home football game and a farewell brunch in the alumni center gardens. This is Stanford Reunion Homecoming, the Stanford Alumni Association's biggest weekend of the year.
This guide explains how the weekend works, who it is for, what happened at the most recent edition and how to handle hotels, parking and the trip from Caltrain. The 2026 weekend ran October 15 to 18. Stanford had not posted dates for 2027 as of November 1, 2026. For the other big campus weekends, see our guide to visiting for Stanford event weekends.
What Reunion Homecoming is
Reunion Homecoming combines two old college traditions into one long weekend. Milestone classes hold their reunions, with class parties, panels and dinners organized by volunteer committees. At the same time the university runs a campus-wide program open to all registered alumni and guests, with faculty talks, tours, receptions and the Homecoming football game.
The milestone classes rotate every year. Each class returns every five years, so in any given October two sets of classes celebrate together. In 2026 that meant the classes ending in 6, from the Class of 1966 through 2016. The classes ending in 1, from 1971 through 2021, joined them. Stanford also lists a separate reunion for the Cardinal Society. Alumni outside a milestone year can still register for the weekend and attend the general program.
The Stanford Alumni Association runs the weekend from the Arrillaga Alumni Center at 326 Galvez Street, on the corner of Campus Drive and Galvez Street. Its gardens host several of the big gatherings.
History and traditions
The Stanford Alumni Association does not publish a founding date for the combined Reunion Homecoming format on its reunion pages, so we do not give one here. What it does document is the weekend's best-known academic tradition. Classes Without Quizzes began in 1993. The idea is simple: faculty and campus leaders give short talks on their research or a favorite subject. Alumni sit in as students again with "no quizzes, no tests and no grades," as the association puts it.
The weekend has also been tied to campus milestones. Stanford Magazine reported that the Arrillaga Alumni Center held its grand opening on October 13, 2001, during Reunion Homecoming weekend. Since then the center has served as the weekend's hub.
Class Books are another tradition. Members of milestone classes submit pages about their lives since graduation. For the 2026 classes, pages were due November 1, 2026, after the weekend itself.
The 2026 weekend at a glance
The published schedule for October 15 to 18, 2026 shows the usual rhythm of the weekend. Stanford noted that the schedule was subject to change.
| Day | Highlights in 2026 |
|---|---|
| Thursday, Oct. 15 | Volunteer reception at the Traitel Building; Dinner on the Quad, 6 to 9:30 p.m., with cocktails in Memorial Court first |
| Friday, Oct. 16 | Class lunches and panels; Classes Without Quizzes; evening class parties, some at the Stanford Faculty Club |
| Saturday, Oct. 17 | Homecoming Hangout, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ford Alumni Gardens; class tailgates; Stanford vs. Elon football, 4:30 p.m. |
| Sunday, Oct. 18 | Farewell Brunch at the Arrillaga Alumni Center, Ford Alumni Gardens |
Each milestone class also runs its own events. The Class of 1986, for example, held a lunch and tailgate at its class headquarters on the Encina Hall front lawn, a 40th reunion panel in Memorial Auditorium and a party at the Faculty Club. Check your own class page on the Stanford reunion site for its schedule.

Signature events
Dinner on the Quad
The opening night dinner is the most sought-after ticket of the weekend. In 2026 it ran from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on the Main Quad, after cocktails in Memorial Court. Tickets are sold online only, with no walk-up sales. Stanford warns that they often sell out within two weeks of going on sale. The All-Access Pass includes the dinner.
Classes Without Quizzes
These talks are the heart of the Friday program. No advance registration is needed and seats go first come, first seated, so arrive early for popular speakers. Most sessions last an hour. Some are recorded and marked with a "press play" symbol on the schedule, which helps if two talks you want overlap. In 2026 the Stanford Bookstore extended its hours for faculty-author books, opening 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekend. Our Stanford Bookstore guide shows where it is.
The Homecoming game
Most years the weekend is built around a home football game. In 2026 Stanford hosted Elon at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, with a Reunion Zone at The Archway above the north end zone. Game tickets are separate from reunion registration. Our Stanford football guide covers seating and game day.
Registration and cost
You register online through the Stanford Alumni Association. For 2026, pricing went up on individual class pages in July and registration opened on August 11. Packages vary by class, so we do not list prices. Many events, including Classes Without Quizzes, are part of general registration, while dinners and some class parties carry their own tickets.
- Register early if you want Dinner on the Quad, since it sells out.
- Check your class page for party tickets, class headquarters and tailgate details.
- Buy football tickets separately through Stanford Athletics.
- Bringing children? Stanford lists limited kids' programming and childcare referrals. Registered children may attend Classes Without Quizzes, but some tours have age limits.
Parking and Caltrain
Stanford posts reunion parking, shuttle and lodging pages for each year's weekend, so start there. On a game Saturday, expect game day traffic on El Camino Real, Embarcadero Road and Campus Drive. Our Stanford parking and transit guide explains visitor zones and ParkMobile payment. Many central zones are free on evenings and weekends, but event rules can override that.
Caltrain is a good option, especially from San Francisco or San Jose. Ride to Palo Alto station on University Avenue. Caltrain said the Stanford stadium station would not open for 2026 games, so plan to walk about 22 minutes along Palm Drive to the stadium or take a campus shuttle where offered. The Main Quad is a similar walk up Palm Drive.
Good to know
- Memorial Church was closed to visitors for maintenance from June 15 to October 31, 2026, which covered the 2026 weekend. Check its status for future years.
- The Hoover Tower observation deck is closed until January 25, 2027.
- October days are often warm and evenings cool quickly. Bring a layer for Dinner on the Quad.
- Wear comfortable shoes. Class headquarters, lecture halls and the stadium are spread across campus.
Hotels and what to do nearby
Reunion Homecoming fills hotels near campus for a long weekend, especially in milestone years for large classes. Book as soon as the next dates appear. Our guide to staying near Stanford lists the closest options. You can also compare hotels near Stanford with refundable rates while plans firm up. Classmates traveling together sometimes find a rental house easier for a group.
Leave time for the campus you remember and the parts that are new. The Cantor Arts Center is free and open Thursday through Monday, a good fit for the reunion schedule. Downtown Palo Alto is a short drive or bike ride away for dinner. A sunrise loop on the Stanford Dish trail is a favorite way to start Saturday before the crowds.
Frequently asked questions
When is Stanford Reunion Homecoming 2027?
Stanford had not posted 2027 dates as of November 1, 2026. The weekend is held in mid-October. The 2026 edition ran Thursday, October 15 to Sunday, October 18. Watch the Stanford Alumni Association reunion pages in spring and early summer, when dates and pricing usually appear.
Which classes celebrate at Reunion Homecoming?
Each year the milestone classes are those whose graduation years end in the same two digits. In 2026 the classes ending in 6 (from 1966 to 2016) and in 1 (from 1971 to 2021) held reunions. By that pattern, classes ending in 7 and 2 would reunite in 2027, but Stanford confirms each year's classes on its site.
What are Classes Without Quizzes?
Classes Without Quizzes are faculty-led talks given during Reunion Homecoming. Stanford says they began in 1993 and promises no quizzes, no tests and no grades. They need no advance registration, most last an hour and seats go first come, first seated.
Do I need a ticket for Dinner on the Quad?
Yes. Dinner on the Quad is sold online only, with no walk-up sales. Stanford says tickets often sell out within two weeks of going on sale. The All-Access Pass includes the dinner, so check what your class package covers before buying separately.
Is the Homecoming football game part of the reunion?
Usually. In 2026 Stanford played Elon at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, with a Reunion Zone at The Archway above the north end zone. Football tickets are sold separately through Stanford Athletics.
