About Lux Eyewear
Lux Eyewear is an independent optical shop at 1805 El Camino Real, Suite 100, in Palo Alto. It sells prescription eyeglasses, designer frames and non-prescription sunglasses. It also finishes lenses in its own lab on site. Eye exams are handled by its clinic, Palo Alto Eye Group, which the shop says is directly next door.
The shop describes its staff as eyewear stylists rather than standard opticians. Their approach, it says, is to look at face shape, coloring and personal style before suggesting frames. Lux concentrates on independent eyewear brands from around the world that it says are not commonly found in mainstream retail.
Frames, lenses and the lab
Lux lists three main strengths on its website:
- Curated independent frames. The shop carries design-focused brands and hosts trunk shows for labels it stocks.
- A wide range of premium lenses. It names progressive lenses, anti-fatigue lenses and sunglass lenses in a variety of colors.
- An in-house lab. Lux says its lens finishing lab lets it control the quality of the work and deliver some prescriptions in as little as two hours.
The website also has a gift card page, a contact lens ordering link and a patient portal for checking order status, invoices and prescriptions.
Eye exams at Palo Alto Eye Group
For a new eyeglasses or contact lens prescription, Lux sends customers to Palo Alto Eye Group. The shop says the clinic is welcoming new patients and works directly with VSP insurance. Call 650-324-9200 to make an exam appointment.
The Lux website introduces Lisa O'Connor, O.D., who joined Palo Alto Eye Group in 2016. It says she earned her doctorate at the Southern California College of Optometry, completed a residency in ocular disease and contact lenses at UC Berkeley's School of Optometry and is glaucoma certified. According to the site, she performs comprehensive eye exams and fits a full range of soft, gas-permeable, bifocal and custom contact lenses. This listing gives no medical advice. For sudden vision changes or an eye injury, seek medical care promptly. Call 911 in an emergency.
The opticians
Lux's opticians page introduces the styling team:
- Jennifer Ortiz, ABOC, optical manager and luxury eyewear stylist. The site says she began her career at Lux, has been a licensed optician since 2010 and finishes custom lenses in the shop's lab.
- Jemma Thron, director of communications and marketing and eyewear stylist, with more than two decades in the optical industry.
- Maddie Gray, eyewear stylist, who the site says has a fondness for bold, colorful and cat-eye frames.
Trunk shows and events
Lux runs regular in-store events. Its 2026 calendar included an Oakley trunk show on June 12, a Dita Eyewear trunk show on August 21 and a launch party for the independent PRESS collection on September 18. In late 2025 it hosted a Garrett Leight trunk show and a holiday promotion for customers using FSA or HSA funds. Check the events page for what is coming up next.
Who it suits
Lux is aimed at people who see glasses as part of their style and want help choosing. Its focus on independent labels makes it a fit for anyone hunting for frames that are less common in chain stores. The on-site lab suits customers in a hurry. The clinic next door means an exam and a new pair can be arranged at the same address.
