About Duet Plastic Surgery

Duet Plastic Surgery is a private surgical practice at 1515 El Camino Real, Suite B, in Palo Alto. Dr. Angeline Lim and Dr. Jennifer Weintraub founded it as partners in 2008. The practice describes itself as independently owned and says it is not owned by private equity.

The practice says the two surgeons conceived it while they were residents in Stanford University's integrated plastic surgery program in the early 2000s. Rather than take the institutional route, they set up a shared private practice. That shared model is the core of the practice's identity. Duet says both surgeons work together in the operating room as a team. It presents this as a way to shorten surgery and anesthesia time for its patients.

The practice focuses on cosmetic breast and body surgery. It says much of its work is with mothers who want to address changes after pregnancy and with people who have lost a large amount of weight. Duet also notes that patients travel to it from around the Bay Area, the Central Coast and other countries.

Procedures

Duet groups its services into breast procedures, body procedures and a set of procedures aimed at mothers. Its website lists these:

  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast lift and breast reduction
  • Explant, which is the removal of breast implants
  • Asymmetry correction and tuberous breast surgery
  • Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck
  • Body contouring after weight loss, including arm lifts
  • Liposuction and liposculpture
  • Labiaplasty
  • Fat grafting
  • Combined "mommy makeover" procedures

Each procedure has its own page on the Duet site that explains what the surgery involves in general terms. The practice says every surgical plan is individual and that it gives each patient a written price quote that is valid for a limited time. This listing does not give medical advice. A consultation with a board-certified surgeon is the place to discuss whether any procedure suits you.

Consultations and booking

To book, call the office at 650-380-0415 or email the team through the address on the contact page. Duet offers in-person consultations in Palo Alto and virtual consultations for people who want to start from home or who live farther away.

The FAQ explains a few policies worth knowing before you call. A credit card is required to hold any appointment. The practice asks for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments carry a minimum charge of $150. For consultations about procedures billed to insurance, the visit is billed to your insurer and you pay your plan's copay.

Payment, insurance and financing

Duet accepts cash, personal and cashier's checks, debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and American Express) and Apple Pay. For financing, the practice says it has partnered with Cherry and is a participating provider with CareCredit and PatientFi. It also suggests that patients ask their local credit union about loans.

Most cosmetic surgery is self-pay. The FAQ notes that some insurance plans still help cover certain procedures, such as breast reduction, including operating room, anesthesia and pathology fees. To check, call the office with your insurance card in hand and a staff member will look at your benefits. Some patients use an HSA or FSA for part of the cost, so it can help to ask your employer about the rules for your account.

Where surgery takes place

The Palo Alto office is where consultations and follow-up visits happen. For operations, the FAQ says Duet is affiliated with surgery centers accredited by AAAASF (the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities), including the Plastic Surgery Center in Palo Alto. The surgeons also hold admitting privileges at local hospitals, including El Camino Hospital in Mountain View and Los Gatos. Ask which facility your procedure is planned for when you book, since it affects where you go on the day.
