About Lively X Studio
Lively X Studio is a strength training studio for women in downtown Palo Alto. It describes itself as "self-funded" and "proudly independent," and says it has served women in Palo Alto since 2022. The studio's new client FAQ places it downtown near Whole Foods, with parking on site plus street parking.
The studio's pitch is that fitness should be about more than sets, reps and calories burned. Its programming blends progressive strength training, sculpt-inspired control and athletic conditioning. The website talks about building bodies that can lift heavy, run faster and train for events such as HYROX, the fitness racing format. It also names pregnancy preparation, postpartum rebuilding and healthy aging as goals its programs are designed around.
The founder is Laura Dotson, who lists the credentials MS-MPH and NBHWC. Her bio on the site describes her as a personal trainer, sports nutritionist and HYROX athlete.
Classes and training
Lively X runs small group fitness classes on a schedule, plus one-on-one personal training and small group training. The class guide on its website helps you choose by goal:
- New to lifting: Total Body Burn or a beginners' Total Body Strength class, with extra coaching on form.
- Glute strength: Booty Burn and Lively Lifts classes focused on the glutes. The studio says one leans on thrusts and squats and the other on hinges and lunges, so taking both covers more movement patterns.
- Performance goals: Lively Lifts Conditioning and HIIT + Burn for people training for HYROX, Spartan races or marathons, with sled pushes and pulls, carries, rowing and other functional work.
- Upper body: a class for back, shoulders, arms and core strength.
- Short on time: an Express Full Body + Core class you can do online with bands and weights.
- Dance: dance classes the studio pitches as fun and sweaty with zero intimidation.
The studio says its workouts change every six weeks, with each cycle built to develop strength and endurance over time. A weekend strength session rounds out the week.
Not every session has to happen in the studio. The website describes virtual classes for days you cannot make it in and on-demand workouts you can do on your own schedule. That makes it possible to keep a routine going during travel or a busy week at work, then return to the studio for heavier lifting with a coach watching your form.
Nutrition coaching and run club
Nutrition is the studio's second pillar. The site describes coaching built on science-backed nutrition and practical strategies, with services for weight loss, body composition goals and fueling for HYROX. It positions this as an alternative to diet rules and all-or-nothing thinking.
The Lively X Run Club is a coached running group that starts with a call to review your running history, goals and injuries. The club meets twice a month, once at the studio and once at a track. Members get a monthly plan plus two extra classes added to their membership.
Booking and policies
Classes are booked through the studio's online schedule, which also shows prices and packages. The website lists memberships, personal training, online training and corporate wellness programs. A few policies from the new client FAQ are worth knowing before your first visit:
- Arrive at least 5 minutes before class so your spot is not released to the waitlist.
- Entry is not allowed more than 10 minutes after a class begins. The class credit is forfeited.
- Lost items are kept for two weeks before they are donated to a local charity.
Questions go to the studio by phone at 415-619-1971 or through the contact page.
