About MNT Studio Palo Alto

MNT Studio is a reformer Pilates studio group with a location in downtown Palo Alto. The studio lists its address as 575 High Street, Unit 120. Some map listings use 145 Hamilton Avenue for the same corner. The company runs studios in Burlingame, Mill Valley, the Marina and Mission Rock in San Francisco and the Inner Richmond, with Lafayette listed as well. Its owner, Barbara Mighdoll, writes on the website that offering a family-friendly environment is a top priority, which explains the childcare program below.

The studio's pitch is simple: give the reformer a try. It describes its classes as a full workout set to music, in a light and airy studio. The company calls its approach the MNT Method and also runs its own Pilates teacher certification in reformer, mat and advanced bridge programs.

Classes and first visits

The main offering is group reformer Pilates. MNT says its group classes are mixed-level, so a newcomer without an injury should be fine joining one. If you would rather learn the equipment first, book a private session by emailing the studio. The company has also added heated mat Pilates at some of its other studios, though not in Palo Alto at the time of writing.

New clients can start with an introductory offer of two weeks of unlimited in-person classes for a flat fee, which the website lists for the Palo Alto, Marina and Mill Valley studios. Check the current price and terms on the "New to MNT" page before you sign up. Classes are booked through the studio's online schedule or app, where you can filter by location, class type and instructor. The intro trial works at every MNT studio, so you can also try a class in Burlingame or San Francisco during the same two weeks.

A few practical rules apply. Grip socks are required in class. The studio sells them in its MNT Boutique if you forget yours. MNT asks first-timers to arrive 10 minutes early.

MNT also hosts community events, such as Pilates in the Park sessions and grand opening parties at new studios. It also books private events for groups. Gift cards are sold online. If you are curious about teaching, the certification programs and a careers page are linked from the studio's site.

Childcare

Palo Alto is one of the MNT studios with childcare. The company says it offers childcare at select times so parents can take a class without arranging a sitter. The details, as the studio publishes them:

  • A per-child fee, booked in advance.
  • No more than three children at a time.
  • A parent must stay on site for the whole class.
  • Children aged 7 and up may wait quietly in reception free of charge.
  • Keep children home if they have a runny nose, cough or fever.

The childcare area is screen-free unless a parent asks for a device, with toys and books chosen by the studio.

Prenatal and postnatal clients

MNT runs pre and postnatal classes under the name MNTMAMA. Its policy asks expecting clients to tell their instructor so exercises can be modified. To keep taking group classes after 20 weeks, the studio requires either one Prenatal Orientation private appointment or two MNTMAMA classes first. Talk to your own doctor about exercise during pregnancy. Book these sessions through the Palo Alto email address, pa@mntstudio.co.
