Stanford gymnastics is two very different stories. The men's team is one of the most successful programs in its sport, with eight NCAA titles since 2009, the latest in April 2026. The women's team has never won a national title but reaches the NCAA Championships often and won the first two ACC crowns on offer. Both are inexpensive and family friendly to watch. A winter meet makes a good alternative to a basketball game.

This page covers both teams, their venues and the 2027 season. For general rules at Stanford events, see Stanford sports and game days.

Men's gymnastics: a modern dynasty

Stanford's men won NCAA titles in 1992, 1993 and 1995. The second wave began in 2009 and 2011. Then came a run few programs in any sport can match: titles in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, with no championship held in 2020. After a year without the trophy in 2025, the team won again on April 18, 2026, in Champaign, Illinois, with a score of 329.825.

Thom Glielmi is the head coach. Because the ACC does not sponsor men's gymnastics, the team competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, where Cal is the familiar rival. It finished second at the 2026 MPSF Championships in Berkeley before winning the national title two weeks later.

Men's meets at Burnham Pavilion

Stanford Athletics lists Burnham Pavilion as the competition site for men's gymnastics, along with wrestling and men's volleyball. It was built in 1921 as the Stanford Pavilion and is named for Malin Burnham, the main donor to its renovation. It has 1,421 fixed seats on wooden bleachers along three sides of the floor. Regular season men's meets are free, according to the facility page. The 2026 home calendar had three meets: the Stanford Open in January, the Stanford International Collegiate in late February and a senior night meet in mid-March. The 2027 schedule had not been posted in late October 2026.

Women's gymnastics

The women's team has been to NCAA regionals 44 times, according to Stanford Athletics. It has reached the NCAA Championships 18 times, most recently in 2024 and 2026. It made the final round, once called the Super Six and now Four on the Floor, seven times between 2002 and 2015. Stanford gymnasts have won five NCAA individual event titles, most recently on vault in 2024.

Tabitha Yim, the Rodgers Family Director of Women's Gymnastics, leads the program. The ACC began sponsoring women's gymnastics for the 2025 season. Stanford's conference rivals include Cal, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh and Clemson. Stanford won the first ACC Championship in 2025 and took the 2026 regular season title.

Tickets

  • Women's meets. A ticket is required for every fan older than 24 months. In late October 2026 the Stanford ticket site listed each 2027 home meet starting at $15. Buy at tickets.gostanford.com. Season and group tickets are sold too.
  • Men's meets. Stanford Athletics lists regular season meets at Burnham as free. Postseason and special events need a ticket, sold at the west entrance on Serra Street on the day.
  • Students get in free to regular season women's meets with a Stanford ID.
  • Mobile tickets must be in your phone wallet. Screenshots are not accepted.

Watching a meet

A college meet moves through four events for women (vault, uneven bars, beam and floor) and six for men (floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar). Teams rotate through them at the same time, so there is always something happening. Scores go up on the boards within seconds. A dual meet takes about two hours.

  1. Get there early. Doors at Maples open one hour before the meet, through the southwest, northwest and northeast entrances, with metal detectors at each.
  2. Sit high for women's meets. Seats in the middle rows give a view of all four events at once.
  3. No alcohol is sold or allowed at women's gymnastics meets at Maples.
  4. Bring the kids. Meets are a good fit for young gymnasts in the family. Our Stanford with kids guide and youth sports guide have more ideas.

Plan a winter sports weekend

Gymnastics shares Maples with basketball, which makes double weekends easy to build from the posted schedules. The women's home opener against Michigan on Friday, January 8, falls the night before men's basketball hosts Florida State on Saturday, January 9, at 2:30 p.m. Three weeks later, men's basketball plays NC State at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 30. The gymnasts host North Carolina at 2 p.m. the next day. Our men's basketball page has the full home schedule. Check both before you book, since television can shift basketball tipoffs.

Good to know

  • The clear bag policy applies at Maples and Burnham.
  • Small cameras under 6 inches are allowed. Tripods and selfie sticks are not.
  • Traveling for the quad meet or a big ACC weekend? Compare hotels near Stanford on El Camino Real.

Parking and transit

For women's meets, Stanford Athletics says parking is free in the Maples Lot, next to the arena, on Fridays after 4 p.m. and all day on weekends, first come, first served. Parking Structure 7 across Campus Drive and the Sunken and Track House lots are other options. For Burnham, the facility page lists the Varsity, Track House and Maples lots, with disabled parking in the Burnham lot off Serra Street. Our Stanford parking and transit guide covers payment and weekday rules.

From Palo Alto Caltrain station, the walk to Maples or Burnham takes 20 to 25 minutes. The free Marguerite shuttle runs main lines on weekdays only.

Where to eat nearby

Most home meets start at 2 p.m. on weekends, which leaves time for lunch first. Town & Country Village, across El Camino Real at Embarcadero Road, has Boichik Bagels, Manresa Bread, Gott's Roadside and Asian Box among other choices. Our Town & Country food guide lists the rest. Downtown Palo Alto, about a mile away, has more options for dinner after the meet. See our guide to eating near Stanford.
