About Juana Briones Kids' Club

Juana Briones Kids' Club, known by its initials JBKC, is an after-school program at Juana Briones Elementary School, 4100 Orme Street, in south Palo Alto. It is one of the Kids' Clubs run by Palo Alto Community Child Care, a local nonprofit that goes by PACCC. The club serves students who attend the school, from kindergarten through fifth grade.

PACCC lists Kelli as the site supervisor. The club's email is jbkc@paccc.org and its phone number is 650-856-3874. This page describes the program as PACCC publishes it. It does not rate the program or compare it with other options and it is not parenting advice.

Grades and schedules

PACCC's page for the club sets out these options:

  • First to fifth grade: care from the end of the school day until 6 p.m.
  • Kindergarten: care until 6 p.m. A shorter option, ending at 2:30 p.m., runs only through mid-October.
  • District holidays: full days from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for all grades on Palo Alto Unified School District holidays.

Families can sign up for one to five days a week. Extra hours are offered only when there is space and the club does not take drop-ins. Children get healthy snacks every day. Tuition for the Kids' Clubs is posted on PACCC's website and changes from year to year, so this guide does not repeat it.

School breaks

For the long breaks in the 2025 to 2026 school calendar, PACCC merges some clubs to run full-day care. Juana Briones Kids' Club pairs with Barron Park Kids' Club for Thanksgiving, winter break and spring break. When the page was checked, the combined site and its capacity were still listed as to be determined. Other closures through the year where PACCC offers full-day care stay at the child's own club.

If you need cover beyond those days, our guide to school break camps lists other options around town.

About Palo Alto Community Child Care

PACCC traces its start to 1969, when six mothers asked the Palo Alto City Council to support quality, affordable childcare. A city task force recommended in 1971 that a nonprofit be set up and PACCC was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in March 1974. In 1989, after-school care was set up at every elementary school site and the number of PACCC centers grew from 7 to 15.

Today PACCC says it serves more than 850 children a day, from two months old through fifth grade. It added after-school care for transitional kindergarten at its Kids' Clubs in 2022. In 2023 it opened 126 after-school spaces for the school district's Expanded Learning Opportunities Program.

How to enroll

  1. Tour first. PACCC recommends touring with your child, either in person or virtually and lets you schedule a tour from the club's page.
  2. Apply online. Applications can go in up to one year before the start date you want. The nonrefundable fee is $25 per center for each child.
  3. Ask about aid. Answer the financial aid questions during the application. If you qualify, the fee is waived.

PACCC says more than a third of its enrollment spots are set aside for families receiving financial assistance. City of Palo Alto funding generally requires that a parent live in Palo Alto, work for the city or have a child attending the district through the Voluntary Transfer Program, along with income limits. State funding has its own rules. A PACCC subsidy specialist reviews eligibility after you apply.

Tips for families

  • Apply early. PACCC accepts applications up to a year ahead, so there is no need to wait for the school year to begin.
  • Note the kindergarten 2:30 p.m. option ends in mid-October, so plan for later pickup after that.
  • Check the holiday location before each break, since it may differ from the school.
