About the Palo Alto Center
Most locals still call it PAMF. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation is part of Sutter Health. Its main Palo Alto campus is the Palo Alto Center at 795 El Camino Real. Sutter lists the address under the name Michael & Judith Gaulke Center. The center sits next to the Town & Country shopping center and across El Camino Real from Stanford University.
This is one of the largest outpatient medical sites in town. Sutter says it provides a full range of primary care and more than 50 specialty and subspecialty services. It also has diagnostic imaging, laboratory services and urgent care for adults and children. For anything life-threatening, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
Services and departments
Sutter names these among the specialties at the Palo Alto Center:
- Allergy and immunology
- Audiology
- Cardiology
- Dermatology
- Gastroenterology
- Geriatric medicine
- Hand surgery
- Neurology
- Obstetrics and gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Radiation oncology
- Sports medicine
Two programs stand out on Sutter's page. The center is home to a sensory-friendly clinic that supports children with disabilities, anxiety or phobias during vaccinations and blood draws. It is also the only Sutter location offering the Valeda Light Delivery System treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration. Sutter describes that therapy as nine brief treatments over three to five weeks, with no dilation, eye drops, medications or needles. For information about Valeda, Sutter gives the number 650-853-2974.

Appointments and the patient portal
The main number for the center is 650-853-2958. Sutter Health also runs a systemwide line, 800-4SUTTER. Patients can book, message their doctor and view test results through My Health Online, Sutter's patient portal and app. Sutter offers video visits as well. Its website has tools to find a doctor, request a referral or schedule an appointment.
Regular hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The center is closed on weekends, though Sutter notes that Saturday hours vary by department. Check with your provider. Urgent care has separate hours, which are listed on Sutter's website.
Health Education Resource Center
PAMF runs Health Education Resource Centers across Silicon Valley. The one here is on the second floor of the Jamplis Building. Sutter says the centers are staffed by health educators, are open to PAMF patients and other community members and offer their services at no cost. Staff help visitors find information and resources about health and wellness. Call 650-614-3200 for details.
Before your appointment
A few simple steps make a visit go more smoothly at a campus this size:
- Sign up for My Health Online in advance so you can message your care team and read results afterward.
- Bring your insurance card, a photo ID and a current list of your medications.
- Note the department and building in your appointment confirmation. Imaging, lab and specialty clinics may be in different parts of the campus.
- If you need an interpreter, ask when you book. Sutter lists language assistance among the center's amenities.
Visiting tips
- Parking: The campus has an underground parking structure. Sutter warns that it can be hard to find a space there on busy days and points drivers to the extra above-ground parking right behind the clinic on Urban Lane.
- Amenities: Sutter lists free Wi-Fi, dining in the facility, gender-neutral restrooms, wheelchair access and language assistance.
- Finding the right building: The campus has more than one building. Check your appointment details for the building name and floor.
- Before or after: Town & Country is next door. Our Town & Country Village guide lists places to eat and shop there.
- Not to be confused with Stanford: Stanford Hospital, on the Stanford campus, belongs to a separate health system. Our Stanford Hospital visitor guide covers that campus.
