About One Medical in Palo Alto

One Medical is a national primary care chain with offices in dozens of metro areas, from Boston and New York to Seattle and the SF Bay Area. Its Palo Alto office, which the company calls Palo Alto Forest Ave, is at 590 Forest Avenue on the corner of Webster Street. That is two blocks south of University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto.

The office offers primary care for adults of all ages, including seniors on Medicare. One Medical describes its model as building ongoing relationships with patients and using technology to simplify getting care. It calls the office a "home for healthcare," meant for preventive visits and for the first stop when something feels off.

Services

One Medical lists these main services at the Palo Alto office:

  • Everyday and preventive care: screening and prevention, plus diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses such as the flu or a rash.
  • Physical exams: One Medical calls these Live Well visits. Patients answer questions in the app beforehand so the visit can focus on what matters to them.
  • Women's health: the company says its primary care providers handle most women's health needs, including birth control, cancer screenings and menopause care.
  • Mental health: offered through Mindset by One Medical, its suite of mental health services.
  • Lab services: drop-in blood draws and other lab work.
  • Prescriptions: refills and new prescriptions, sometimes after an in-office or remote visit.

The office page lists four providers: Sujitra Tansuwan, NP; Sarah Haney, MD; Saya Akkad, MD; and Virginia Heese, MD. Provider lists change, so check the office page for the current team. This listing describes services only and is not medical advice. For an emergency, call 911.

Booking and membership

You can book online without a membership. One Medical says same-day or next-day appointments are available. Visits are billed to you or your insurance and copays or deductibles may apply. The booking flow offers several visit types, including an Annual Live Well Visit, an In-Office Visit, a Remote Visit and a Mental Health Visit.

Members get extra features. One Medical says the fastest way for members to reach their provider is by message in the app or on the website. Booking through the iOS and Android apps is for members only. One Medical also says appointments, in person or remote, can be booked through its office page on Amazon. Members can also choose a primary care provider, which One Medical says opens up more appointment availability.

Insurance and labs

One Medical says it accepts most commercial insurance plans, Original Medicare with or without most Medicare supplement plans and select Medicare Advantage plans. Patients without insurance, or whose plan is out of network, can pay for themselves. Use the insurance finder on One Medical's website to check your specific plan.

The on-site lab keeps shorter hours than the office: weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., closed on weekends. It takes drop-in visits for labs ordered by One Medical providers and for outside lab orders. The app shows average wait times.
