About Luna Dance Studio

Luna Dance Studio is a community dance school with a studio at 2635 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto's Midtown and a second studio at 805 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. It describes itself as a unique, community-based studio that offers dance to boys and girls ages 2 to 18 and to adults of all ages. Its motto on the website reads "dance for fun, dance for love, dance for you."

The studio marked its tenth anniversary in 2026. It celebrated with a Ten Year Anniversary Gala on September 26, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City, with proceeds going to the studio's scholarship fund. That scholarship focus fits the way Luna presents itself: as a neighborhood studio where teachers know every child by name and support reaches beyond the studio walls into the community.

Classes at the Palo Alto studio

The Palo Alto schedule runs Monday to Friday, mostly in the after-school hours, with an adult class in the evening. Styles on the current schedule include:

  • Ballet and contemporary, including a teen ballet and contemporary class and an advanced contemporary ballet class
  • Hip hop, with classes for ages 7 to 12, 9 to 13 and 13 and up taught by an instructor the studio lists as Jalen
  • Jazz and jazz funk for school-age dancers and teens
  • Ballet and hip hop combo classes for younger children, starting at age 3
  • Core groups named Pixie Core and Small Frye Core, which appear on the schedule alongside the regular classes
  • Adult hip hop, a performing class on Tuesday evenings taught by Nadeen

Many classes on the posted schedule are marked sold out, especially the early childhood combos and the younger hip hop groups. If you have a specific day and age group in mind, sign up as early as you can. The schedule changes from session to session, so treat this list as a guide.

Season, recital and camps

The session dates posted on the website show classes beginning September 8 and ending December 11, with a winter recital on November 7 and 8. The site does not print the year next to those dates, so confirm the current calendar with the studio. A recital in the middle of the term gives students a performance goal early in the school year.

In summer, Luna runs weeklong dance camps from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp page lists weeks from late June through mid-August, split into younger and older groups, roughly ages 4 to 9 and 10 to 14. Some weeks are held only in Palo Alto, some only in Menlo Park and some at both studios. The studio describes registration as first come, first served. Several weeks sell out. If you do not see the week you want, the studio invites families to email.

Who it suits

Luna is aimed squarely at families. The combo classes are a gentle start for preschoolers who are not ready to pick one style. School-age children can try hip hop, jazz or contemporary without committing to a pre-professional ballet track. Teens have their own ballet, jazz and hip hop classes. Adults get an evening hip hop class of their own. Parents who want a structured but relaxed setting will find the studio's description a good match: a structured, welcoming and supportive environment where dancers are encouraged to express their personalities while being respectful and disciplined.

Tips for families

The Palo Alto studio is on Middlefield Road in Midtown. Most classes run an hour, which is long enough for a parent to run an errand nearby. Our Midtown neighborhood guide covers what is around. Afternoon classes start as early as 2 p.m. on some days, so check pickup timing against school dismissal.

The website lists email as the main way to reach the studio, at info@lunadancestudio.com. Registration runs through the website, where each class shows whether it still has space. If both studios are convenient, compare the Palo Alto and Menlo Park schedules, since a class that is full at one location may have room at the other.
