About Fillmore & 5th
Fillmore & 5th is a resale shop for women's designer and contemporary fashion at Town & Country Village. It is the sister store of Crossroads Trading, the buy, sell and trade chain. Its pages live on the Crossroads website. The shop's address is 855 El Camino Real, Suite 88. The center's directory places it in Building 3.
The store says it specializes in highly coveted secondhand clothing and accessories for women. Its own example of the mix is timeless Louis Vuitton and Chanel pieces next to favorite basics from Madewell and Everlane. Everything is priced by in-store staff, so stock changes daily as people sell and shop.
Shopping the store
Expect a rotating selection of clothing, shoes and handbags rather than a fixed catalog. Crossroads says its buyers favor items that are in excellent condition, in season and on trend. That means coats and knitwear fill the racks in winter, while lighter pieces arrive in summer. The company also says its buyers are trained in-house to authenticate popular designer items. It guarantees authenticity to the best of its knowledge.
Because there is only one of most items, regular visits pay off more than a single trip. If you are hunting for a particular designer bag, ask staff whether they have seen one come in recently.
Crossroads describes resale as a way to keep clothing out of landfill. The center's listing adds that pieces sell at a fraction of the original retail price. That makes the store a good first stop for trying a brand you have not owned before. Check labels and condition carefully, as you would at any resale shop. Ask about the return policy before you pay.
Selling your clothes
Selling is half the business. The store buys on-trend women's clothing, shoes and accessories in person. There is no appointment system. You can join the waitlist from home with the Crossroads Waitlist App and then come in when your turn is near. The selling page sets out the basics:
- Bring up to 50 items, freshly laundered, with no hangers.
- Sellers must be 18 or older and show a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Drop-off is not available, so plan to wait while staff go through your items.
- Items should suit the current season.
Staff price each accepted item on the spot. You then choose cash or trade credit. The selling page lists cash payouts of 25 percent to 40 percent of the store's price, rising with the item's price, or 45 percent in trade credit. Trade credit works at both Fillmore & 5th and Crossroads stores. Rates can change, so check the page before you go.
Consignment and other options
For high-end luxury pieces, the store offers consignment instead of an upfront payment. The payout grows with the sale price, from 50 percent on items that sell for under $200 to 70 percent on items that sell for $5,000 or more. Once an item sells, you receive a check by mail. The store says checks go out bi-monthly, so there is no need to come back to collect payment.
If you cannot get to the store, Crossroads offers Sell by Mail, sending a bag with a prepaid return label. Sellers with large premium or designer collections can apply for a concierge service that handles everything from pickup to payout.
Tips
The store is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 650-463-0060 with questions. Before you bring a bag of clothes, sort out anything out of season or worn, since those are the items most likely to be passed over. Folding items neatly in a bag or tote makes the review faster.
