On this page
Saratoga Village is small. Big Basin Way, which is also Highway 9, climbs through a few blocks of older buildings with restaurants, wine tasting rooms, galleries and shops before the road heads into the redwoods. The scale is part of the appeal. You can walk from a Michelin-starred dining room to a fondue restaurant to an Indian kitchen in a few minutes, with the hills rising right behind.
The village is mostly a dinner destination. Several of its best-known restaurants open only in the evening, so plan lunch around the few that serve it. This page lists places confirmed on their own websites in late October 2026. Descriptions are factual: what each place serves, where it is and what its website says about hours. For Hakone, Montalvo and the hills, see our Saratoga town guide.
How the village is laid out
Big Basin Way runs uphill to the west from the intersection with Saratoga Los Gatos Road and Saratoga Sunnyvale Road. Restaurants sit on both sides in the 14400 and 14500 blocks, mixed with tasting rooms and boutiques. Hakone Gardens is about a mile farther up the same road. Montalvo Arts Center is a short drive south.

The restaurant takes reservations Tuesday through Sunday through OpenTable and posts wine dinners on its experiences page. Our fine dining guide covers tasting menus near Palo Alto. Our Michelin guide explains how the stars work.

Fondue, Indian and BYOB
La Fondue
La Fondue at 14550 Big Basin Way builds its whole menu around fondue. It offers several fondue "experiences," takes reservations and hosts birthdays and company events. The restaurant posted an updated full menu in October 2026. It suits a group that wants a long, slow dinner.
Mandala
Mandala at 14510 Big Basin Way, Suite 3, serves modern Indian food with lunch, dinner and drink menus. Its website lists lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily, dinner until 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday and until 1 a.m. the rest of the week. That makes it the latest kitchen in the village by far. Pairing dinner with Hakone, Montalvo or wine
Most visitors from Palo Alto come to Saratoga for something else first. Hakone Gardens, the Japanese garden at 21000 Big Basin Way, moved to winter hours on October 31, 2026 and now closes at 4 p.m. That leaves time to walk down to the village as dinner service starts. Montalvo Arts Center has trails by day and performances at night, which pair well with an early dinner on Big Basin Way. The hills around town hold many wineries. The village has its own tasting rooms too. Our wine tasting guide covers the Santa Cruz Mountains wineries closest to Palo Alto.
- Drive: Saratoga has no rail. From Palo Alto, take Interstate 280 to Saratoga Sunnyvale Road and follow it into the village.
- Book: The Plumed Horse, Flowers, Hero Ranch and La Fondue all take reservations. Weekend nights fill first.
- Mind Mondays and Tuesdays: Flowers and Hero Ranch close Mondays, the Plumed Horse takes reservations Tuesday to Sunday and Mint Leaf closes Tuesdays.
- Stay nearby: Saratoga has few hotels. You can compare hotels near Saratoga in Los Gatos, Campbell and Cupertino.
Timing a village meal
Saratoga keeps small-town hours. Weekday afternoons are quiet, with only a few kitchens open between lunch and dinner. Dinner service at Flowers and Hero Ranch starts at 5 p.m. On weekends the village also draws hikers coming down from the parks up Highway 9, cyclists and visitors from Hakone, so allow extra time for parking at midday. Holiday events change the rhythm too. The chamber of commerce lists Candy Cane Village and a holiday wine experience on November 27, 2026. Book dinner early if you plan to go that day. Our Sanborn County Park guide covers the redwood trails up the road.
Checking ahead
Older directories of Saratoga restaurants can be out of date. While checking this page we found a seafood restaurant whose website no longer lists its Saratoga branch among its active locations. We also found a kebab shop whose own site does not list Saratoga at all. We left both out. Before you drive, check the restaurant's own website or reservation page for the day you plan to go.
